MAYOR TOM Menino is putting his ego and petty squabbles ahead of what is in the best interest of Boston, again. He promised change, but we are getting more of the same. I don’t know Don Chiofaro and have no allegiance to him. I am also withholding judgment on his project. But he is absolutely right when he says the proposed Greenway study is a sham.

Where has the mayor been the last 10 years as nothing has gotten done on the Greenway? We have squandered a $14 billion investment that should be teeming with life and activity in the heart of downtown.

The mayor’s myopic vision will squash yet another project before it can be fully aired or considered because one of his friends is not proposing it, because he doesn’t like who is, and because he can. It is illogical that he won’t be the bigger man and try to make something work.

Where was the Greenway study and its height cap when the mayor was pushing a 1,000-foot tower three blocks away from the Greenway, or when the city championed and approved over the last several years the 395-foot Russia Wharf Tower (almost built) or the 300-foot tower on the old Dainty Dot site, both directly abutting the Greenway?
