ROTC AND ‘DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL’
RE “ELITE colleges thawing on ROTC’’ (Page A1, April 26): I am a Harvard alumnus who graduated in 1968 and served in the US Navy for three years, including 16 months in Vietnam. I am also a gay veteran who had to lie at my pre-induction physical, in the days before “don’t ask, don’t tell,’’ so that I could serve our country.
I fully support Harvard and other colleges reinstating Reserve Officers’ Training Corps programs. But I would like to see justice served first, by repealing the discriminatory law that bans gays and lesbians from serving openly, and then ROTC programs reinstated afterward.
