I AM writing concerning “A chance to be seized’’ (Metro, July 30), the excellent column by Brian McGrory concerning the great opportunity Boston has to construct a building at the site of the Harbor Garage.

If a city doesn’t grow, it dies. Where else besides Boston would a city reject a private individual who is willing to spend millions of dollars, create thousands of private industry jobs, and improve an area of the waterfront that is an eyesore? Which city besides Boston would be more concerned about the shadows than creating jobs?

Where are the construction unions? Why aren’t they demanding that the mayor support this project?

McGrory’s suggestion that the project be tied in with the Filene’s project is a great idea.

Hopefully the city and its citizens will see the benefits of this project and get this done.
