RE BRIAN McGrory’s column about Michael Capuano (“Another face of Capuano,’’ Metro, Nov. 10): When a friend takes your car keys away if you’ve had too much to drink, that doesn’t mean he’s no longer your friend. Nancy Pelosi drove the Democratic Party into a wall, and Capuano is just trying to repair the damage and look to the future.

Pelosi’s statements, such as the one about first passing the health care bill and then finding out what it says, drove the Tea Party movement and others to vote Republican. Can she bring the Democrats back with such a negative standing with the public? I don’t know. But does the party want to take that chance?

Whatever you think of Capuano, he is brutally honest in his assessments, and I think he is looking out for the best interests of the Democrats.
