PARTY LINES have been clearly drawn in the battle over the tax compromise. The Republicans fight for tax cuts for the rich and against the estate tax. The Democrats fight for tax cuts for the middle class and for extension of unemployment benefits. As usual, the Republicans fight for the super-rich and the Democrats fight for everyone else. No surprise. The mystery came last month on Election Day, when the majority voted for the party that favors the super-rich, even though the super-rich are a small minority. That’s the mystery.
