PRESIDENT’S PICK FOR THE FED WITHDRAWS
I REGRET the failure of the president to appoint professor Peter Diamond to the Federal Reserve Board (“Do people of distinction have a place in today’s Washington?’’ Editorial, June 7).
If I were President Obama, I would reciprocate the Republican intransigence: professor Joseph Stiglitz for the Council of Economic Advisers and professor Paul Krugman for the Fed.
We must continue to press for a progressive view in Washington.
