I APPLAUD Michael Levenson for his article on potential conflicts of interest for lawyers who are also members of the state Legislature (“Lawyers who are legislators face conflicts; Some do not report even potential issues,’’ Page A1, July 4). Legislators such as Senator Cynthia Stone Creem use the explanation that if it is okay by the Ethics Commission, then it’s just fine. Maybe it is time to examine the practices of the commission that allows such conflicts to continue.

Do you think that a practicing divorce lawyer like Creem who has control over divorce legislation passes the smell test? I think not.
