JEFF JACOBY’S op-ed on public-sector unions is important reading for all taxpayers. This is probably the most important fiscal issue in the United States today. One should add that teacher unions are especially undemocratic. We need free public education to get well-educated voters because sovereignty rests in “we the people.’’ Can we be confident, however, that unionized teachers will teach their students about the pros and cons of public-sector unions objectively?
