A SEASON OF DISAPPOINTMENT
MORE VALUABLE to me than Terry Francona’s contributions to the Red Sox was the way he used his very difficult and public position as manager to show how an honorable man conducts himself. In today’s often nasty world, Francona’s combination of intelligence, honesty, compassion, dignity, and humor is not just a wonderful example for kids, but for all of us.
Finding a good baseball man to replace him is going to be a lot easier than finding someone with the character he has exhibited in his eight-year tenure in Boston. To use his own words, he has always chosen “the right thing to do.’’ I wish him the greatest of happiness in his future life.
Thanks, Tito.
