SHOULD THE GLOBE HAVE NAMED THE BULGER TIPSTER?
A COUPLE of years ago, I decided to subscribe to the Globe in order to support a newspaper, in dire straits at the time, that worked in the public interest. I completely disagree with your assessment that it is in the public interest to identify the Bulger tipster. To know her name does not advance my career, put bread on the table, or make my life happier. I do not know what interest I could possibly have in knowing her name. I believe it should have been kept a secret, unless you had her consent to publish it. In this case, I am sorry to say, the Globe did not live up to its standards.
