America needs a new policy toward science: We should support it, not denigrate it. The Bush administration used science mostly as a cynical talking point. When it wanted to delay action on a problem, it would say, "Wait until we have better science." When confronted with contrary scientific evidence, it would dismiss it as "junk science."
