Deval Patrick went bland and safe yesterday, choosing Kennedy loyalist Paul Kirk as the state's interim US senator. That pleased the Kennedy camp, but left fans of former governor Michael Dukakis fuming -- and, indeed, had some predicting that alienated Dukacolytes would turn a cold shoulder Patrick's way in next year's election.
