THINLY-VEILED panic greeted the release of home sales data for July. Sales dropped 26 percent in Massachusetts and 27 percent nationally, and in response, Wall Street stocks plummeted, pundits warned of a double-dip recession, and headline writers employed the adjective “dismal’’ at a rapid clip.
