Amen to that! Mr. Obama wants to encourage dialogue and support differnent viewpoints, and I applaud that. But Rev. Warren is an outspoken homophobe, declaring that he "loves gays and lesbians," but also feels that homophobia is pretty much equivalent to incest, pedophilia, and polygamy. I find it hard to believe that hatespeak like that is a view which should be heard, and respected in a Valuing Differences kind of a way. Warren's invitation was a mistake.

Although Rev Warren's views on the gay rights is out of step to say the least,
I do applaud his efforts helping people with AIDS. He has not accepted a salary in 6 years, and over 90% of his profits from books go back to his church. His support for Prop 8 was lukewarm. While I think his views on gay rights are still reprehensible, I don't think he another Jerry Falwell either. Perhaps this is a step in the right direction. It would be great to some day elect the first agnostic president....

Tolerance means a civil discourse among those who disagree. It does not mean acceptance or admission that all viewpoints are valid or correct. I can still be tolerant while saying respectfully that you are wrong and attempt to support that assertion.

Ummm, Mr. Wasserman, who is intolerant of opposing views? And of the democratic process in California?

Warren believes women should be subservient and he does not want science
to advance via stem cell research. Welcome to the 18th century
Obama has given us a slice of his pathetic and ignorant judgment
What a con man

Homosexuality is unnatural & perverse. Any questions?

Then Obama himself is an "outspoken homophobe" too, because he said he agrees with most Americans, that marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman.
Liberals who claim they want 'tolerance" are the most intolerant of differing views. The gay advocates smear anyone who doesn't agree 100% with them as "homophobes" or "bigots" .

Warren may not be the perfect choice; however, I think someone will complain regardless of Obama chose. Most clergy disagree with homosexualality; exspcecially the homosexual ones. He certianly wasn't going the has Rev. Wright. He can't pssobly only surround himself with people with whom he totally agree. That includes his cabinet. That what he had for the last eight years. Their is a gay minister here in Atlanta that would satisfy the gay vote, but then there is everyone else. Atleast he did get Pat Buchanan; then I would have been scared too.

Why is any religion brought into a presidential inauguration? Warren is a fat pig!

The term homophobe means someone who hates gays and lesbians. You extend the term to mean anyone who does not agree with you. That brings up a new term... fascist.

warren is probably gay himself

Do we really need a clergy person at inauguration, anyway? What about a plain old Justice of the Peace?

Refusing to engage the Iranian leadership, a leadership that executes people just because they are gay, is wrong and unilaterally problematic. Dealing with Rick Warren, who is against gay marriage but ministers to AID victims, is intolerable. Am I missing something here?

Obama just isn't that bright; That's the reason he has chosen people who are celebrities and not the best qualified. His whole party is going to get tired of saving his butt before he gets through with his first term.

Wasserman's cartoons always have this extreme touch to them.
Sure, let's censor the conservative "hate speech" after we throw Dick Cheney in jail for liberating Iraqis right?

I take issue with David Wasserman's depiction of Rick Warren as being intolerant.
I do not consider the bible intolerant!!!

Dan Wasserman has been cartooning for the Globe editorial page since 1985.
He has published two collections of drawings, "We've Been Framed" (Faber &
Faber, 1987) and "Paper Cuts" (Ivan R. Dee, 1995). His cartoons are widely
reprinted and are syndicated internationally by Tribune Media Services. He
draws more quickly than he types.
