James Wood busts a move

Posted by Joshua Glenn August 8, 2007 10:44 AM

Speaking of literary criticism, a quick note:

The New Republic's ace pitcher literary critic James Wood, a Somerville resident and Harvard lecturer, was acquired by The New York Yankees Yorker, the New York Times reported yesterday. Said TNR literary editor Leon Wieseltier, "The New Republic plays many significant roles in American culture, and one of them is to find and to develop writers with whom The New Yorker can eventually staff itself."

Brave words, though litblogger Ed Champion has a different take: "This may be a wild stab in the dark, but I don't think Wieseltier plans on tap dancing anytime soon over this."

I interviewed Wood for Ideas in 2004. Here's the Q&A.
