io9!
Hooray!
Annalee Newitz's new blog, io9, launched this morning.

WHO: Annalee Newitz is a San Francisco-based pop culture and technology journalist. She's also: a syndicated columnist; editor of Other Magazine; author of "Pretend We're Dead: Capitalist Monsters in American Pop Culture"; founder of a scholarly webzine, Bad Subjects; coeditor of the books "White Trash: Race and Class in America" and "She's Such a Geek: Women Write About Science, Technology, and Other Nerdy Stuff." Newitz is the lead editor of io9.
WHAT: io9 is a futurism, science, and science fiction blog published by Gawker Media. Newitz explains:
io9s were marketed as cheap time machines in the 2070s. They were actually just low-grade input/output devices for the brain that tuned tachyon waves and gave users vivid images of possible futures. The things were so addictive, and drove so many people insane, that io9s were eventually outlawed. Today the word is just slang. io9ers are the early implanters who obsessively upgrade themselves with beta tech. People who tweak out on buggy brainware are sometimes said to have "gone io9."
WHEN: Today!
