Eve in Candyland

Brainiac never gets tired of pointing out how successful his friends and fellow Bostonians/Massholes have become... thanks to having moved away, that is to say.

Recently mentioned examples of this phenomenon include:

* Christine Elise, ex-Roslindale; now Los Angeles and somewhere in Michigan. Loss to the region: 1 talented actress and photographer.

* Jesse Milden and Joe Alterio, ex-Cambridge and Waltham (Jesse) and Arlington (Joe); now Seattle (Jesse) and San Francisco (Joe). Loss to the region: 1 talented designer and entrepreneur (Jesse); 1 talented illustrator/cartoonist (Joe).

* Kanishka Raja, ex-Jamaica Plain; now Brooklyn. Loss to the region: 1 talented painter.

* Benjamen Walker, ex-Cambridge; now New York. Loss to the region: 1 talented radio producer/artist.

This weekend, the Los Angeles Times Magazine put Eve Epstein, who grew up in North Adams, and whom I met while we were both attending college in nearby Williamstown, on its cover.

Epstein -- pictured above in a Jay Godfrey yellow washed silk "cold-shoulder" dress, and "Otis" patent-leather peep-toe pumps with Mondrian heels, is editorial director of DailyCandy, a fashion/food/lifestyle trend-spotting newsletter operating in LA, New York, London, DC, Chicago, San Francisco, and (yes) Boston; she has a million readers.

Loss to the region: 1 talented trendsetter.

Hey, Governor Patrick: Stop the brain drain!
