Grad-student yuks

Posted by Christopher Shea November 14, 2008 05:09 PM

Am I the last person to hear about PHD Comics? (And let me know in the comments section which, if any, campus newspapers in the area carry it.)

This, evidently, is their most popular strip ever. It goes back a while -- to the site's pre-color days -- but it holds up.

  1. I think, perhaps, you are the last person to hear about Jorge Cham's great strip. Every PhD student I know reads it faithfully.

Then again, I only actually know the PhD students in my discipline, which makes for a pretty small group.

  1. Yes, you.

Jorge Cham's been to MIT numerous times, most recently earlier this year. The Tech carries it. I have a signed poster of a comic of his that has since gone out of print - from 3 years ago.

How does Brainiac not know of the graduate student's only cultural touchstone?

  1. The grad student's *only* cultural touchstone? Things are grimmer out there than I thought.

Yes, this is a grave lapse in my attempts to keep tabs on academic culture, and I will do penance -- maybe by spending an hour or two on Cham's site.
