Crooked Timber recently wrapped up an online symposium on "What are Intellectuals Good for?," by George Scialabba. By day Scialabba is a mild-mannered building superintendent at Harvard, but he has a sideline as an author of critical literary-political essays, writings that have earned him something like a cult following.

At CT, guest contributors, including the UCLA historian Russell Jacoby and Crooked Timber regulars Scott McLemee and Henry Farrell, explain what you've been missing if you haven't read him.
