Topos Graphics in Brooklyn dispensed with the current logo altogether. It was too cluttered to be readable on a small scale, and it\ was spacey in a Star Trek kind of way, said Seth Labenz, one of the principals at Topos.
Topos came up with this black-and- white logo of the NASA name, using rigid letterforms to evoke engineering.
A logo should be grand in its simplicity, Labenz said. The monochrome approach, he said, was preferable to some cutting-edge computerized color treatment, which could quickly end up looking dated. From left to right, in the N and the two As, the silhouette of a rocket rises inside the letters it continues to go upward to the brink of what we dont even know yet, Labenz said.
