An early appointment found me off my normal train schedule, so I parked at Route 128 and took the Stoughton line into Boston. At the end of the day, I walked to the 5:10 Franklin train, as I've done for 15 years. A conductor, whom I didn't know very well, said, "Didn't I see you on the inbound Stoughton train this morning? How are you going to get to your car at Route 128?" That saved me at least 45 minutes and a $20 cab ride as I scurried to the right train. It also got Barbara, the conductor, a bouquet of flowers the next day. Don't ever think the people around us aren't paying attention.

In April, the night before my 23d birthday, I went out with friends to several bars in Davis Square. The next morning, I signed on to Facebook and had a message from Lauren, a student at Tufts: "Hey, I found a driver's license and blood donation card with your name on it and I'm wondering if you lost them on the T." I messaged her back with my home address and a million thanks. Three days later, they arrived. Best birthday present ever.
