With a great husband, gaggle of supportive girlfriends, and a job she loves, Charlene McKenzie tends to look at the world through rose-colored glasses. Red is actually her favorite color, popping up often in her wardrobe, in her accessories, and even on her dog, named - what else? - Ruby. "I always wear at least one funky stand-out piece, either a trendy jacket, stylish shoes or boots, fl ashy dangling earrings, or maybe a fun oversized ring," says the 38-year-old Peabody resident. "Dressing with a sense of style just makes me feel good." So does her job in business development for Multicultural Home Care and Freedom Home Care on the North Shore. Helping ill and elderly people stay in their homes longer is very rewarding, says McKenzie. Though the 5-foot-11 blonde tones down her look for work, she's never without an imaginative fashion element that captures her personality. "Most people I meet with are wearing white lab coats or uniforms. People always remark on my clothes. It makes me memorable."

Where She Shops
FOR INVESTMENT FASHIONS "I tend to buy pieces, not entire outfits," says McKenzie, who's always on the hunt for something really special. She says two stores that never disappoint are Azure (37 State Street, Newburyport, 978-465-0790) and French Lessons (26 State Street, Newburyport, 978-499-0499, and 26 Bay Road, South Hamilton, 978-468-1399). FOR JEWELRY McKenzie mixes real and costume pieces to great effect. She finds both at Gingie's Boutique (23K Whites Path, South Yarmouth, 508-398-8200) and Baubles Fine Jewelry (1 Post Office Square, Lynnfield, 781-592-6110, baublesfinejewelry.com). She also likes the fl ashy earrings at Filene's Basement at the Square One Mall (1277 Broadway, Saugus, 781-233-8944, filenesbasement.com). FOR BARGAINS "There's a T.J. Maxx [637 Lowell Street, West Peabody, 978-536-2780, tjmaxx.com] right down the street from my house, but I don't walk there because I need the car to carry all the bags home," jokes McKenzie. She also drives to Marshall's (655 Broadway, Saugus, 781-233-0266, marshallsonline.com) for great shoe finds.
