What inspired Heirloom Cooking?

Marilynn: We had done Heirloom Baking, and we're two sisters, and Sheila's great love is baking. I think I do OK at baking.

Sheila: She's a wonderful baker!

M: But Sheila loves baking, and I love entrees, I love vegetables. And I also love salads and soups, the savory.

Do you have favorite recipes in this book?

S: I love Dale's Meatloaf. . . . It reminds me of my mother and how wonderful she was.

M: My favorite, I think it's the Whale Cookies from Marblehead. No, it's the Lemon Chicken from Marblehead. We have had that recipe for 45 years.

What's for dinner tonight?

M: I am experimenting with a recipe, actually it's called "leftovers."

S: And we are going to have a fresh salad and some real vegetables, broccoli and cauliflower.

M: For dessert, we'll have fresh fruit in season, a cut-up pear, and just one toasted almond cookie each.

S: And then a little exercise. --Anne V. Nelson
