While I was power walking on sunny Derby Wharf, a young couple approached me. The man asked if I’d take their picture. I slowed my stride. This, I figured, was the price I paid for exercising at a tourist attraction. As I framed the shot, the young man got down on one knee, presented a ring, and proposed to his partner. Surprised, I almost forgot to snap the photo. I quickly reframed and snapped another to capture the young woman’s gleeful response. “Wow, I had no idea what I was getting into,” I said. “Neither did I,” the young woman exclaimed. I resumed my walk, verklempt.

Math Games In an April game last year, scoring 0, 1, 1, and 2 runs in innings one through four, the Sox were having a good offensive start, to the crowd’s delight. A season ticket holder in front of me turned and said, “Three runs in the fifth, and we’ll have a Fibonacci sequence.”
