It was 2004, 3 a.m., at our host’s home in England, and I had come down early to start preparations for our move to Italy when I noticed a light under the living room door. There was our host, Geoff, with a Red Sox jersey and hat on watching the final game of the World Series, cheering them on. I sat down with him and we watched that wonderful win together, then called my son in Massachusetts to celebrate along with him, so many miles from Boston.

A Giving Ghoul My husband and I love Halloween. We decorate our walkway and enjoy getting lots of trick-or-treaters. This year, when we had gotten down to our eighth and final bag of candy, I said to a group of boys: “One piece each. I’m running low.” One little boy looked at me and said, “I’d like to make a donation.” He reached into his bag and added a fistful of candy to my bucket -- my best Halloween treat ever.
