All Eyes on Sox Karin: My only worry was that my date would be someone I knew. I was praying he wouldn’t be any of the Mikes I knew.
Mike: I was excited, and a bit nervous.
Karin: When I walked in, the bar was packed, but nobody took their eyes off the
Mike: She was very attractive, fit, and professional looking.
Karin: He seemed like your average guy. I like guys who are taller than me, which he was, so that was a big plus. I also thought he was a lot older than me (he is, but only by a year).
Chug-a-Lug Karin: He seemed really nervous; it was the first blind date for both of us, so who wouldn’t be? He did say he drank his beer really fast and hoped I wouldn’t lower his grade too much for it, which was cute.
Mike: We spoke about typical things – where we’re from, our jobs, schools, how we ended up in Boston.
Karin: He used to vacation on the Jersey shore, and I asked if it was really like the show on MTV, but he doesn’t have cable and didn’t seem to know what I was talking about.
Mike: Karin grew up in Massachusetts, went to college in North Carolina, and spent a semester in Europe. She enjoys running, too, and organized sports.
Karin: It turns out I used to live right near where he lives, so we both had some horror stories with that, which was a good icebreaker.
Mike: We both love the seashore and traveling. We’re both very social and outgoing, but also value being able to “get away from it all.” Neither one of us spends a ton of time watching TV.
Karin: He seemed like a genuinely nice guy. We both like to read and be outdoors. We both like dogs.
Mike: She was thoughtful, engaging, and showed a genuine interest. Our conversation easily rolled along.
Karin: He didn’t say anything that was a deal breaker, but I was much more talkative than him. I had to keep asking the questions to keep him talking; I felt like an interrogator.
Doing the Wave Karin: The restaurant was setting up for some type of function, so we decided to get going.
Mike: We exchanged numbers, and I said I really enjoyed meeting her and hoped to meet up again soon.
Karin: It’s always awkward trying to figure out if you should do a handshake or a hug, so I just made it more awkward and did a little hand-wave goodbye.
Post-Mortem Karin says: B
Mike says: A
Second Date? Mike would be up for getting to know Karin, but Karin says he’s not her type.
