The former head of Fleet Bank who sold the company to Bank of America in 2003, Chad Gifford, 65, still has an office – with an enviable view – downtown, even though he is now chairman emeritus. He divides his time between the boards of Bank of America, NStar, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Boston Plan for Excellence, a support program for improving the city’s public schools.
