The bowl is something I get endless grief from my wife about," says Vermont's Parker Nichols. "I made it from a burl. Burls are ugly bumps on trees, and I remove them because they lower the value of trees at lumber shops. . . . I have all these ugly chunks of wood, but I think they are beautiful."
