Contemporary ChicSoon after Rhode Islands Barbara DePasquale hastily chose marble for the fireplace in her Warwick home, she regretted it. I lived with the ugliness for a good year, she says. So her son-in-law, architect Paul North of Mansfield, and furniture maker Peter Trumbull Crellin of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, reworked it. Now the fireplace features columns and a mantel constructed of birds-eye maple veneer over a composite core, accented by ebonized mahogany balls and a steel embellishment. It transformed the room, DePasquale says.
