After her husband died, Sarah Hazel decided to finish the renovation he had designed for the fireplace in their Concord home. He had chosen handmade tiles from Trikeenan Tileworks of Keene, New Hampshire, to match the kitchen’s backsplash. The old fireplace “was just really, really understated, to the point where no one even noticed it,” Hazel says. The white tiles, in a style Trikeenan calls Big Skinny Brick, are a combination of three of Trikeenan’s 97 glazes. “People that come in love the tile,” says Hazel. “And for me, it has that special meaning.”
