New shows at brand new theater
There is a brand-new theater opening up in town, with two new shows starting this weekend. The theater is in Central Square--conveniently named the Central Square Theater, too-at 450 Mass Ave, right next to Mary Chung's. Tonight through August 9 they'll be putting on repertory productions of "QED" (which I blogged about here) and "Coming Up for Air":
Conceived and performed by Boston's favorite jazzman, Stan Strickland, and written and directed by Jon Lipsky, "Coming Up For Air" is based on Strickland's near-death experience when his life and career flash before his eyes after being overtaken by rogue waves in Hawaii. He explores many instruments, musical forms and dance movements searching for the sources of his music.
After those shows close, from August 13 to 23, Deborah Henson-Conant, the "Hip Harpist" and friend of the Ig Nobels, will be performing a concert entitled "What the Hell Are You Doing in the Waiting Room for Heaven?"
All three shows look excellent and you can get tickets to all three here. We'll be at "QED" this Sunday at 3--Mr. Improbable is going to be on a panel after the show. Perhaps we'll see you there!
