Interruptions of scheduled broadcast

Posted by Robin Abrahams September 27, 2009 06:36 AM

We've got a good rhythm going here on the blog these days: questions on Mondays and Thursdays, my responses on Tuesdays/Wednesdays and Fridays ... it seems to be working well, no? This week, though, the schedule's going to be thrown off a bit.

Monday is Yom Kippur, so I won't be posting a question. (I could set it up to post in advance without my having to do anything, but I won't be around to approve your comments). A new question will go up on Tuesday instead.

And after that ... well, who knows? Because there's one day of the year that rocks my world even more than Yom Kippur: IG NOBEL PRIZE DAY!

Which is this Thursday, October 1, and as of this writing, tickets are still available. They do sell out, though, so get yours now!

The Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony is one of the 10 Things I Love About Boston, and the planning and production of it shapes a year in the Improbable/Conduct household much as the seasons determine the year of a farmer. It's a huge show, with a lot of different moving parts, and a cast of characters--and oy, do I mean characters--ranging from sword-swallowers to bureaucrats to musicians to Nobel laureates to the inventor of the pink plastic yard flamingo.

I keep my own involvement in the show fairly minimal, but I go into round-the-clock caretaking mode for Mr. Improbable and Milo, who desperately need it, and am more or less on call for any emergencies that might crop up. (The first year Mr. Improbable and I were a couple--we'd only been dating since the summer--the emergency that cropped up was that he lost his voice during the show. He managed to get through it, because as MC he only has to speak a few sentences at a time, although he later mentioned that his voice hadn't broken that much in public since his bar mitzvah. The next day, however, he couldn't talk at ALL. And he had an entire day's worth of interviews scheduled ... most of which I wound up doing for him.)

So ... I'll for certain post the list of this year's crop of Ig winners on Friday, and I'll try to moderate comments promptly, and not get too far behind on my responses. But let me ask your patience for a week that contains both the holiest, and the craziest, days of my life.
