Social pleasantries like Merry Christmas or Happy New Year shouldn't be held to strict standards of interpretation. I scheduled a mammogram for my last birthday, and I didn't feel obligated to explain to my friends who wished me a happy birthday the difference between "happiness" and the experience I was actually anticipating.
Happy New Year, dear readers, and welcome to the return of regular programming. I've got a great Monday question coming up, a chat on Wednesday, interviews on what makes for a keep-able New Year's resolution, and more.
