David A. Brown, a Boston attorney, died of a heart attack Saturday while skiing at Bretton Woods Resort in New Hampshire. He was 47 and was a longtime resident of Hingham.
A senior partner at Sherin and Lodgen, Mr. Brown and had argued two significant cases regarding reporters' privilege and First Amendment rights before the US Court of Appeals. He was also active in pro bono activities and coached mock trial teams in Boston middle schools.
Before joining Sherin and Lodgen, Mr. Brown was a clerk for Judge Frank M. Johnson Jr. of the US Court of Appeals, practiced with the Boston firm of Ropes & Gray, and served as a special assistant district attorney for Middlesex County.
Mr. Brown was married to Mary B. Griffin, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game.
A Weymouth native, he received his law degree from Cornell Law School in 1988 and was an editor of the Law Review.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Brown leaves his two sons, Hunter and Wilson; two brothers, Stephen of Washington Grove, Md., and Richard of Hull; and a sister, Laurel of Somerville.
A funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Old South Union Church in South Weymouth.
Mr. Rowley graduated from Medford High School and was an avid sports fan. He leaves his wife, Gerri; two children, Adam and Traci, both of East Bridgewater; two brothers, Bob of Malden and Rexford of Medford; and a sister, Pamela Baker of Saugus. The memorial will held at noon in the Great Hall adjacent to Grace Episcopal Church in Everett.![]()
