Nancy Hannan
Nancy (Hughes) Hannan, a lifelong resident of Hyde Park and the longtime president of the neighborhood's historical society, died Saturday at Milton Hospital of organ failure. She was 76.Mrs. Hannan earned degrees from Emmanuel College and Suffolk Law School. She was a school teacher and probate lawyer at different times yet devoted a large part of her time to Hyde Park history. She wrote 19 of the 23 local books the historical society published. "My friendship with Nancy goes back many years, and I will particularly miss her love for Hyde Park," said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. "She had a passion for her community and helped keep the history of Hyde Park alive."
In 1999, Mrs. Hannan and her husband, Robert, were grand marshals of the Hyde Park Day parade.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hannan leaves three daughters, Mary Yee of Biddeford, Maine, Nancy Rainer of Chesapeake City, Md., and Sally Croarkin of Kensington, Md; two sons, Robert Jr. of Tanzania and Christopher of Weymouth; and 12 grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. today at St. Adalbert's Church in Hyde Park.
Robert Fennessy Sr.
Robert H. Fennessy Sr. of Cambridge, a former defense contractor and firefighter who became an actor, died of throat cancer Feb. 1 at Quigley Memorial Hospital at the Chelsea's Soldier's Home. He was 82.When defense work began to slow down, Mr. Fennessy's son Kevin, a Boston casting director, suggested that he try attending casting calls. Mr. Fennessy appeared in commercials and as a featured extra in such films as "The Crucible," "Fever Pitch," and "Good Will Hunting." In 2004, he was cast as a lovable, feeble grandfather in a sitcom pilot filmed as part of the "My Life is a Sitcom 2" reality series.
Mr. Fennessy graduated from Brookline High, and served in the US Navy. He was a key technical writer for NASA's Mercury Project.
In addition to his son Kevin, Mr. Fennessy leaves his wife, Georgia (Ravanis); another son, Robert of Plainville; and two granddaughters. A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at St. Martha Church in Plainville.
Funeral Mass for Keith Ryan
A funeral Mass for Keith Ryan, who grew up in Hingham, will be said at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul Church in Hingham.Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel in Hingham.
Mr. Ryan, an attaché for the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, had been stationed in Pakistan and was found dead in his Islamabad residence on Jan. 28. The US State Department told the family that Mr. Ryan had taken his life. His father, Bob Ryan, a sports columnist for the Globe, said yesterday that the family is awaiting the results of further tests.![]()
