Stanley M. Lewis, local businessman and World War II veteran, died at his Weston home Friday of heart failure. He was 93.
Mr. Lewis enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served at radar stations in the Gilbert Islands and Hawaii until 1946; he left the Army as a captain.
Mr. Lewis founded Conant Controls, a company that manufactures precision control devices for industry use, said his son Leslie (Buddy) of Brookline. In 1952, he founded Utilities Supply Corp. and cofounded Asahi/America Inc. in 1973 with his son.
"He was a gifted engineer," said his son. "He had great ingenuity."
Mr. Lewis was a member and past president of the Medford Rotary and Weston Rotary, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He belonged to the Ancient and Honorary Military Corps, the Norfolk Fishing Club, and the Masonic Temple. He was a former trustee at Babson College and Pine Manor College.
Mr. Lewis was married to Eve (Baker) for 50 years until her death in 2000. In addition to his son Leslie, Mr. Lewis leaves another son, Richard of Cummaquid; two daughters, Phyllis Loewenstein of Bloomfields Hills, Mich., and Wendy Jo of Sherborn; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at noon today in Temple Israel in Boston.![]()
