With a burst of song, a buoyant melody from her lips, Mira Laudon changed the course of her life. Drawing an appreciative glance from a man on the other side of the barbed wire, she reached for her younger sister and the two twirled, a spontaneous dance in one of history's least-likely venues for joy.
