John Wallace, a former executive of National Shawmut Bank in Boston, died March 5 at his home in Wellfleet. He was 94. Mr. Wallace graduated from Needham High School, Dartmouth College, Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, and Dartmouth Graduate School of Banking. During World War II, Mr. Wallace commanded an Army artillery battery in Europe and attained the rank of major. In 1936, Mr. Wallace joined the investment research department of the National Shawmut Bank, where he worked on security and portfolio analysis. He later was appointed trust officer, assistant vice president, and, in 1970, senior vice president. After retiring in 1978, Mr. Wallace moved to Wellfleet, where he was active in community affairs and organizations, including the Wellfleet Conservation Trust, the Wellfleet Personnel Board, and the Wellfleet Historical Society. He leaves his wife, Helen (McGuinness); three sons, John, Robert, and James, all of Wellfleet; three daughters, Wendy Bellavance of South Orleans, Betsie Taber of Bradenton, Fla., and Laurie Simko of Chelmsford; one brother, Richard of Wellfleet; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services have been held.
