Edward Deely Sr.
Edward G. "Lefty" Deely Sr., a World War II veteran and a longtime Roslindale resident, died June 22 at the Tippett Home in Needham. He was 82.
Mr. Deely attended Roslindale High School and served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal.
After his naval service, he graduated from the former Portia School of Law, now known as New England School of Law. In 1954, he married the woman who would be his wife of 36 years, Ruth J. (Fitzgerald). The two met in their church's dramatic and social clubs.
He went on to work at Boston's Probate Court and then as assistant general counsel for the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Mr. Deely liked to play baseball, football, handball, racquetball, and tennis. He officiated for local church and community league basketball and football games.
He was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale and the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Deely leaves four daughters, Geralyn Szczesuil of Mansfield, Maura Holland of Mansfield, Kerin of Medway, and Kim Deely Emery of West Roxbury; three sons, Edward Jr. of Nashua, Kevin of Roslindale, and Christopher of Foxborough; and 17 grandchildren.

Warren G. Balcom
Warren G. Balcom, a lifelong Somerville resident, died June 29 at Mount Auburn Hospital of complications following surgery. He was 74.
After high school, Mr. Balcom served in the US Army. He worked at Payne Elevator in Cambridge and then went to work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a custodian, where he retired.
In 1960, he married the woman who would become his wife of 47 years, Jacqueline J. (McNally).
He enjoyed building crafts, which he would give to family and friends, going on walks, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Gary of Billerica; two daughters, Deborah DeVine of Malden and Margaret McDonald of Tewksbury; a brother, Lincoln of Melrose; and seven grandchildren.
