Peter Smith, 69, retired N.H. justice

CONCORD, N.H. - New Hampshire court officials say that retired Superior Court Justice Peter Smith of Bethlehem has died. He was 69.

Mr. Smith died at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on Tuesday.

Mr. Smith served primarily in the Grafton and Coos County Superior Courts.

He was appointed to the Superior Court by Governor John Sununu in 1985. He retired from active service in 2003 and continued to serve the Superior Court as a senior status judge.

Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Mr. Smith had served on the Littleton District Court since 1969. He had been named presiding justice of that court in 1979.
