Eugene J. Tillman

Eugene J. Tillman, a dentist and a World War II veteran, died Saturday at MetroWest Medical Center in Natick. He was 95 and a longtime resident of Dover.

Dr. Tillman was born in Springfield, where he graduated from Classical High School.

He attended Middlebury College, Syracuse University, and the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. During World War II, Dr. Tillman served as a dentist with the Army and rose to the rank of major.

He stayed with the reserves after his discharge in 1946 and ran a prosthodontic clinic at the former Murphy Army Hospital in Waltham.

He retired from the reserves in 1957 as a colonel.

After his service, Dr. Tillman maintained a dental practice in Wellesley for about 37 years and was a professor of dentistry at Tufts.

In 1987, Dr. Tillman was recognized by the Massachusetts Dental Society for 50 years of distinguished service.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Wellesley and the Longwood Cricket Club and a patron of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. With his wife, Hilde (Feige), he helped found the Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Tillman leaves a brother, Seth, of Potomac, Md.

A funeral services will be held today at the Temple Beth Elohim.
