Veronika Dudarova, 92, Russian conductor

MOSCOW - Russian conductor Veronika Dudarova, who led Moscow orchestras for 60 years, has died at the age of 92.

Ms. Dudarova became a conductor at the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra in 1947 and in 1960 was named chief conductor and artistic director. She left the orchestra in 1989. From 1991 until the end of her life she headed the Symphony Orchestra of Russia, which she had founded. Over the years she worked with many of Russia's finest musicians.

Ms. Dudarova's death Thursday was announced by representatives of North Ossetia, the Russian republic where she was from. No cause of death was given.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow in the Moscow Conservatory.
