ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Christopher F. Randolph, a Vietnam veteran who served as president and chief executive of a foundation that helps the children of Marines go to college, died of brain cancer May 22 near his home in Old Westbury, N.Y. He was 64.

During his four-year tenure heading the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, based in Alexandria, Va., Mr. Randolph raised $38.5 million for college scholarships.

"Marine families are really struggling with how to pay for college," said Margaret Davis, the foundation's current president and chief executive. "Obviously, Chris's legacy and his commitment was to help ease that burden." A scholarship has been established at the foundation in Mr. Randolph's honor.

Mr. Randolph commanded a Marine mortar battery in Vietnam and Okinawa, then went on to serve in the Marine Reserves until 1973, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of captain.

He went to Washington to work for Senator Jacob K. Javits, Republican of New York, and met his future wife, Patsy (Lyons), who also worked for the senator.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Randolph leaves a daughter, Kate of Los Angeles; a son, Christopher of New York; three siblings; and his mother, Gwendolyn Randolph Franklin of New York.
