NASHUA — William Smart, who was devastated by his son’s murder in New Hampshire’s notorious Pamela Smart case and then strongly opposed an early prison release for the gunman, has died.
He was 68.
Farwell Funeral Home in Nashua confirmed that Mr. Smart died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer at his Nashua home.
In 1990, Pamela Smart found her husband, Gregory, shot to death in their condominium.
Police arrested three teens and charged Pamela Smart, a media coordinator at their school, as an accomplice.
Mr. Smart called her a “cold-blooded murderer’’ at her sentencing.
He later opposed early release for gunman William Flynn, who said he killed Gregory Smart after Pamela Smart seduced him.
Pamela Smart, who is serving a life sentence, maintains she had nothing to do with the murder.
