PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Tributes are pouring in from across New Hampshire for longtime Democratic Party activist Anita Freedman.

The 82-year-old Portsmouth woman died Saturday at her home. The cause of death was not released.

The New Hampshire Democratic Party says that for decades, Ms. Freedman served on the local and state Democratic committees. From 1985 until 2008, she served as a chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

Governor John Lynch called Ms. Freedman a “role model of dedication to her community of Portsmouth’’ and the state.

Ms. Freedman leaves a son and a granddaughter.
