Vernon Weaver, 88; businessman served in the Carter and Clinton administrations

MIAMI — Vernon Weaver, a businessman who served in the Carter and Clinton administrations, has died in Miami.

He was 88.

Joyce Weaver said her husband died Tuesday in South Florida, where they most recently lived.

Mr. Weaver was chairman of the Small Business Administration under President Carter from 1977 to 1981. He also was the US am- bassador to the European Union in Brussels from 1996 to 2000 under President Clinton.

Mr. Weaver had also worked for Stephens Inc. in Little Rock, Ark. Before working for the Carter administration, Mr. Weaver worked for Union Life Insurance Co. in Little Rock, where he rose to president and chief executive.

A memorial service will be held next month at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where Mr. Weaver graduated in 1947.
