LINCOLN, Neb. — Larry Shepard, the former
The funeral home handling the arrangements in Lincoln, Neb., said Mr. Shepard died Tuesday.
Mr. Shepard managed future Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente and the Pirates to an 80-82 record in 1968. He was fired late in the 1969 season with Pittsburgh at 84-73.
Mr. Shepard was the pitching coach for the Cincinnati Reds from 1970-78. On a team known for its big hitting, he oversaw a staff that helped the Reds win the World Series in 1975 and 1976.
A longtime pitcher and manager in the minors, he also was the pitching coach for the ![]()
