MELBOURNE, Australia - Australian road cyclist Carly Hibberd died Wednesday after she was hit by a car while training in Italy.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that Ms. Hibberd, 26, from Queensland State, was struck by a car in Como in the northern part of Italy.

Ms. Hibberd moved to Italy in 2009 to pursue her career as a professional road cyclist, joining the Cassina Rizzardi A Style Fionucci team at the start of this season.

Her fatal accident follows the death of Belgium’s Wouter Weylandt in the Giro d’Italia on May 9 and Australian cyclist Amy Gillet in Germany in 2005.
