Sensing in the late 1980s that too few high school students of color were pursuing journalism careers, Carole Remick, then an English professor at University of Massachusetts Boston, founded the High School Journalism Collaborative. The program brought high school students of color from Boston - and eventually from throughout New England - together with working journalists for a workshop in how to produce a newspaper. Mrs. Remick, who had lived in Marblehead, died Oct. 18 at 78.
