Paul Motian, 80; inventive drummer played on classic records by Bill Evans
WASHINGTON - Paul Motian - whose subdued, shape-shifting drumming with pianist Bill Evans and other musicians influenced generations of jazz drummers - died Tuesday at a hospital in New York. He was 80.
